Abstract

Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic prognoses have been put forward concerning the prevalence of HIV and the number of people of these estimates are based on data from the AIDS records, combined with the application of mathematical modelling techniques. In the Netherlands, the data on AIDS are provided by the Chief Medical Officer of Health (GHI); on a European level, data can be obtained from the Quarterly Reports of the E.C. World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Collaborating Centre on AIDS in Paris, while worldwide figures are available from the WHO in Geneva.
