Abstract

In terms of public health, the 1980s will undoubtedly go down as the AIDS decade. The new disease has attracted widespread interest. Hardly any self-respecting scientific journal or popular magazine has failed to include an article on the AIDS epidemic. The annual number of epidemiological, socio-scientific, legal/ethical and economic articles and commentaries on AIDS in the Netherlands has even exceeded the annual incidence of the disorder. In the literature studies conducted for the baseline analysis in this project, over 2000 books, articles, reports studies and lectures (some in Dutch but most in English) were encountered on AIDS and its impact.
