Abstract

The region under investigation is part of the Sunda shelf of SE Asia. It is conventionally limited by 7° to 12 °N and 105° to 110 °30’ E. The N boundary is contiguous with the coastal zone of Central Vietnam. The dominant climatic factor of the region as well as the whole of S China Sea is the monsoon: the NE monsoon blows from December to March (in winter) and the SW monsoon blows from June to September (in summer). Numerical calculations of the wind current fields by means of the two-dimensional non-linar model of the low-water theory have been carried out for obtaining a general pattern of currents in this region. Certain results of geostrophic calculations and instrumental data of observations over the currents have been used as well.
