Abstract
Non-pharmacologic treatment of arrhythmias is very attractive for various reasons. Antiarrhythmic drug therapy has several disadvantages, as side effects are common and the therapy is sometimes worse than the disease. A lot of attention has recently been given to proarrhythmic side effects of antiarrhythmic drugs [1]. Furthermore, when we are dealing with a disease with paroxysmal behaviour, drug therapy poses additional problems. [2, 3]. It is a general experience that it is very difficult to convince young patients to remain compliant to the prescribed therapy. When we are facing elderly patients with structural heart disease, and suffering from potentially lethal arrhythmias, the problem of drug compliance becomes even more important [4].
