Abstract

Seen from the centre of a big city the night sky is not very impressive : the huge city lights and an enormous amount of dust obscures most of the starlight and spoils the view of the celestial vault. This picture changes drastically if we look at the sky from the country, or still better, from the mountains, for instance from a ski resort; there we see thousands of light sources, of all colours — blue, yellow, red.
