Abstract

A model is proposed for preparing high Tc superconductor films by the liquid phase-epitaxial technique. This model is based on the solidification phenomena of non-stochiometric melts along the liquidus of the pseudobinary phase diagram, constructed analytically from a hypothetical ternary system. To test the validity of this model, the Y2O3-CuO-BaO and Bi2O3-CuO- (Sr,Ca)O ternary systems were chosen for studies. The experimental data of the LPE-grown high Tc superconductor films in terms of x-ray diffraction patterns, resistance versus temperature data, and a.c. susceptibility are in good agreement with those obtained from other standard techniques.
