Abstract
During the Ice Age many of the parts of Britain that were not actually glaciated were, nonetheless, subjected to the rigours of an arctic or sub-arctic climate. Far removed from the moderating influence of the Atlantic, East Anglia was probably subjected to particularly severe conditions. Temperatures may well have been as much as 15°C cooler than today and the ground was frozen to great depths by permafrost.
