Abstract

Neuroblastoma is the archetypal and most common variant of peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumour1. The third commonest solid malignant tumour of infancy and childhood, it is surpassed only by neoplasms of the lymphoid tissue and cerebral tumours2.3. It constitutes some 8-10% of all cancers seen in patients up to the age of 15 years. Ninety per cent of neuroblastomas occur in patients less than 10 years old4. The usual age at presentation is between birth and 5 years and boys are slightly more often affected than girls.
