Abstract
The full inverse scattering problem of quantum theory, viewed as a problem in three dimensions, is one of the most challenging problems of mathematical physics. Even the vastly simpler problem of one-dimensional inverse scattering, when treated rigourously, involves many deep results from pure mathematics. Our emphasis in this book is largely pedagogical, and we shall therefore proceed as follows.
