Abstract

The crystallization of polymers and their blends has been studied by light, x-ray, and neutron scattering. Light scattering serves to characterize the crystallization at the level of spherulites and other superstructure, x-rays at the lamellar level, and neutrons at the interfacial and molecular level. This have been studied in the case of blends of high density, low density, and linear low density polyethylene where common sperulites are found containing separate or mixed lamellae, depending on crystallization conditions. With the poly (vinylidene fluoride)/poly(methyl methacrylate) blend, the crystalline PVDF are interspersed with an inhomogeneous mixture of amorphous PVDF and PMMA. Recent work is presented on the crystallization of a blend of polycarbonate and poly-ε-caprolactone where both components may crystallize
