Summary

For the general equation of 2nd order, it is proved that the characteristic Cauchy problem on a conoid has a solution in terms of formal series.

For some systems of quasilinear equations of 2nd order, existence and uniqueness of this Cauchy problem are proved in some convenient functional spaces. Applications to physical systems are mentioned.
