Abstract
For its normal function the myocardium is dependent on a continuous blood supply by the coronary vessels. Compromized coronary flow is one of the main causes of cardiac pathology. This does not only hold in advanced coronary atherosclerosis, but also in other cardiac diseases, like valvular disease, cardiomyopathy and small vessel disease. In order to fully understand the pathophysiology of myocardial perfusion regulation, we must consider the involvement of the following physiological factors in such a regulation.
