Abstract

Repeated determinations of systemic haemodynamics are often necessary for effective follow-up of patients. Both short-term and long-term follow-up of patients with cardiovascular disease require sequential evaluation of stroke volume and cardiac output, blood volume distribution, as well as indices of cardiac performance. These indices may be altered positively or negatively by the natural history of the disease and/or by therapeutic interventions.
