Abstract

Standardized echographic examination of the right blind eye with neovascular glaucoma and cataract in a 52-year-old woman revealed solid retinal detachment with thickened retina and irregular mostly medium to high reflective subretinal echoes. After a few weeks the left eye developed ophthalmoscopically visible yellowish areas of solid retinal detachment at the posterior pole and multiple small peripheral choroidal infiltrates. Vitreous aspirate and retinochoroidal biopsy of the right eye failed to show evidence of intraocular tumor cells. Histological examination of the enucleated right eye showed massive subretinal lymphocyte infiltration with necrosis and hemorrhage. Immunohistochemistry confirmed the diagnosis of intraocular non-Hodgkin’s large cell lymphoma. The results of standardized echography are discussed and correlated to the histological findings.
