Abstract
On 30 October 1991, the British Secretary of State for Health announced the government’s new Patient’s Charter. The Charter had been eagerly anticipated by many consumer and professional groups. Health care librarians and information specialists also awaited the launch with great interest. It was inevitable that improved information for patients would form a key element of the Charter and create a new and exciting opportunity for those ready to respond.
