Abstract
Three species of aphid are commonly found on plum, damson and blackthorn: these are the leaf-curling plum aphid (Brachycaudus helichrysi (Kaltenbach)), the damson–hop aphid (Phorodon humuli (Schrank)) and the mealy plum aphid (Hyalopterus pruni (Geoffroy)). Successful pest control on plum depends to a large extent on control of these aphids, which are the most important pests of this crop. In addition to the direct damage done to the tree, these aphids are vectors of the virus which causes plum pox (sharka) — a serious disease of plum, damson, peach and ornamental Prunus
