Abstract
To assess changes in the distribution and abundance of a butterfly fauna, reliable information on spatial and temporal occurrence is essential. This chapter examines present sources of information that could be used to assess changes, how those sources have been compiled and collated for Britain, how they have been and are being used, and how anticipated needs for information may be met in the future.
