Abstract
Credit for the discovery of the metal element titanium is usually given to William Gregor (1791) and Martin Klaproth (1795). The name comes from the mythological Titans, the first sons of the earth in Greek legend. Titanium is the ninth-most abundant element in the earth’s crust (after oxygen, silicon, aluminium, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium and potassium) and accounts for about 0.63 percent of the total. The human body is 0.03 percent titanium dioxide (300 ppm).
