Abstract

In this chapter we consider the idea of interruption and redistribution of electric currents which are aligned with the magnetic field (the field-aligned currents in what follows), for example in the solar atmosphere, in a topological way. The currents are created under the photosphere and/or inside it, as well as being generated in the corona by all forces. However, independent of their origin, the electric currents distributed in the solar atmosphere reconnect together with magnetic field lines.
