Abstract
The La Flecha Formation (Cambrian-Ordovician boundary) from the Carbonate Basin of Argentina (South America) has a clear shallowing-upward cyclic pattern. Each cycle is formed by a subtidal unit and ends with a supratidal one. This sequence has a biosedimentary style with a great development of thrombolites and stromatolites. An ideal cycle is described in which the facies occur and the most usual vertical associations suggest that this sequence may be a protected ramp or an island model, which was accreted vertically and migrated laterally over a wide and protected area. The thrombolitic megastructure of Argentina are interpreted in terms of Cambrian-Ordovician global changes.
