Dealing With Uncertainty in Integrated Electricity Planning

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 261))

Abstract

This paper discusses the implementation of planning studies for an electric power system within a framework of uncertainty. The analysis of this topic has gained in interest during the last two decades due to the increasing number of uncertainties (and to the widening ranges of these uncertainties) which the power system planners have had to face. Furthermore, the risks implied by these uncertainties have also increased due to changes in the business environment of the electric utilities. Within this new planning environment the methods and tools used within a deterministic planning framework are not applicable any more, and new approaches have to be considered.
