Abstract
In Syria, barley is the most important crop in areas receiving less than 300 mm annual precipitation. Both grain and straw are used exclusively as livestock feed, mainly for sheep. They contribute about 53 percent to metabolizable energy (ME) needs (THOMSON, 1987).
