Abstract
Bidirectional communication enables two pieces of equipment to communicate i.e. to transmit and receive information from one another. Applied to cardiac pacing, bidirectional communication is a further development of the earlier programmable devices. The same technology which permits the pulse generator to communicate with the programmer at the time of a program change also provides the means for interrogation of the pulse generator at any other time. Therefore, all present-day pacemakers have a double communication link, one for programming and another one for telemetry.
