Abstract
The principal requirements for materials for the hot-end of gas turbines for aerospace applications are:
-
high melting point
-
good oxidation/corrosion resistance
-
high temperature strength
-
microstructural stability at high temperature
-
low density
-
high stiffness
-
good fabricability
-
acceptable cost
-
reproducible performance
Nickel-based alloys have evolved as the metallic materials with the best combination of these properties for these particular applications in gas turbines.
