Abstract
For a number of years now the public authorities in Europe have appeared increasingly concerned by the problems caused by traffic accidents. This is no less true for Switzerland. Hence in the late 1980s the Federal Department of Transport, Communications and Energy approved funding for the development of a model designed to identify and value all of the socio-economic consequences of (road and rail) traffic accidents.
