Abstract
It is shown how large-eddy simulations, by means of the eddy-viscosity parameterization of the dissipative scales, can be used to reproduce the statistical properties of low and moderate resolution numerical simulations of 3-D homogeneous turbulence [1, 2, 3]. The simulations also indicate how the intermittency of fully developed homogeneous turbulent flows has an important time-dependent component. A comparison with a direct (2103) numerical simulation confirms the existence of the temporal component of the intermittency and indicates the negligible influence of the specific dissipative model.
