Summary
As part of its remediation activities, ANTEA has developed a specific strategy for underground pollution control, using its whole Earth Science experience for pollutant removal through pumping. Creating its own modelling tools, it can predict and manage the evolution of pollution plumes into aquifers, and thus protect drinking-water reservoirs. According to the behaviour of pollutants present at each site, a specific remediation process by pumping will be implemented. Four different cases are considered, representing the more commonly occurring situations: there are light insoluble (gas oil) or soluble (benzene) products which float on the surface of the water table and dense insoluble (naphthalene or tetrachloroethylene) or soluble (phenol) products which are present within the groundwater. For each, an example is given, discussing the field situation and the efficiency of removal.
