On-Site Versus Off-Site Analysis; a Matter of Balance Between Heterogeneity and Accuracy

Summary

Analysis of contaminated soils is very difficult because of the heterogeneity of the soil and the problems of obtaining representative samples. So there is a need for highly sophisticated strategies for sampling the gas emission, the soil and the groundwater, either on-site with simple field tests, or in the laboratory with highly sophisticated analytical methods.

Kurzfassung

Die Analyse belasteter Böden ist wegen der Heterogenität der Böden meist sehr schwierig, insbesondere die Gewinnung repräsentativer Proben bereitet Probleme. Aus diesem Grunde bedarf es einer ausgefeilten Probenahmestrategie, um Bodenluft, Feststoff und Grundwasser sowohl vor Ort mit einfachen Methoden, als auch im Labor mit verfeinerten Methoden zu untersuchen.

L’analyse de sols contaminés est très difficile en raison de l’hétérogénéité des sols et de la difficulté de recueillir des échantillons représentatifs. Il est donc nécessaire d’avoir des stratégies très sophistiquées pour échantillonner l’émission de gaz, le sol et l’eau souterraine, soit in situ avec de simples tests de terrain, soit en laboratoire avec des méthodes d’analyse hautement sophistiquées.
