Abstract

The cost of contaminated sites remediation at (former) military bases in Eastern and Western Europe is enormous. Consequently, many of the worst contaminated will not be remediated in the foreseeable future. In the mean time, contaminants are drifting into the environment with rain- and groundwater, continuously expanding the area of contamination and increasing the cost of (future) remediation.
