Abstract

Evaluation of long-term natural recharge based on water balance method combined with the evaluation of dynamic response of aquifer system provide an appropriate tool for assessing the long-term sustainable yield of the groundwater system. This approach has been elaborated with reference to two case studies: one for the groundwater basin in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal and the other for the coastal aquifer of Mannar Island in Sri Lanka.
