Discussion of the Chaotic Behaviour of an Elastic-Plastic Structure

Abstract

The dynamic behaviour of an elastic-plastic structure undergoing large displacements is considered. Emphasis is put on its possible chaotic behaviour. This has important consequences for the shakedown of the structure, on the predictability of its response and on the estimation of its lifetime.
