Abstract
Climatic conditions in humid mid-latitude regions alternate between warm moist summers and mild winters. In the northern hemisphere this seasonality has favoured the widespread development of forests dominated by deciduous broadleaf trees. In parts of Asia the deciduous trees are replaced by broad-leaved evergreen species, but it is in the mild, moist climates of the southern hemisphere that the temperate evergreen forests become especially predominant.
