Abstract

Recovery of hydrocarbons from a reservoir may make exclusive use of the inherent energy of the system (primary recovery); energy may be added to the system in the form of injected fluids (secondary recovery); some of the residual hydrocarbon trapped during conventional recovery processes may be mobilized (tertiary or enhanced oil recovery).
