Abstract
Pecan varieties are marketed as native and seedling nuts or as improved varieties (Demena 1991). Native and seedling nuts are harvested from trees that have not been grafted or budded and do not have a variety name. Improved varieties (cultivars) are produced on trees that have been grafted or budded to a named variety. The quality and storage characteristics of nuts from each of these categories varies greatly.
