The main complaint should be established first, with particular regard to onset, duration and recurrence. In taking an aural history enquire specifically into the six likely presenting symptoms. These are:

hearing loss

vertigo and imbalance

tinnitus
-
discharge
-
earache
-
facial nerve palsy or weakness
