Abstract

Much reference has been made in the last chapter to nuclear energy levels and their various properties (e.g. spins and parities) and we now move on to consider how information about these levels is obtained experimentally. There are two main ways of doing this — the use of nuclear reactions, and studies of how excited nuclei decay through the emission of β- and γ-radiation. In this chapter we deal with reaction processes.
