Abstract

This Chapter deals with questions of responsibility, control and autonomy. Questions were devised to try to answer the following questions: what makes people feel responsible? How do people react to taking the blame for others? Are they willing to take responsibility for matters beyond their control? Do teamwork and empowerment alter people’s sense of responsibility? Is the buck passed up or down? Do targets reinforce personal responsibility? Why is responsibility problematic in organisations under political control? Does responsibility differ from accountability?
