Abstract
Engineering is an art and a science, neither of which can last long without the other. The art is best understood through written descriptions, pictures of equipment, and above all by visits to operating installations. The science is often expressed in terms of mathematical equations and physical concepts. However, the practicing engineer must understand the science within a context. He or she must know the meaning of engineering terms and be able to visualize the appearance and the function of the equipment.
