Abstract
Recent years has seen much interest and attention turned to the subject of thrombosis, with an appreciation of the incidence and significance of the process in cardiovascular disease, improved understanding of the pathogenesis of the process and interrelated circumstances, development of new approaches to therapy, and the mechanism of action of various forms of treatment. The thrombotic process is involved as a primary event in the pathogenesis of many cardiac or vascular diseases, or in the complications associated with pathologic conditions of other etiologies. An understanding of thrombosis is important for clinicians managing patients with cardiovascular conditions in order to understand the predisposing factors and prognosis of the conditions. Perhaps more importantly, such understanding allows appreciation of the alternatives for therapy.
