Abstract
The initiative for this project was taken by NISSO (Netherlands Institute for Social-Sexological Research). The research of NISSO mostly concerns sex experience and relationships in which sexuality is an important aspect. This project was selected because NISSO is becoming increasingly interested in body experience and the body’s significance in interrelationships and sex experiences. Its aim was to explore the effects of mastectomy on a woman’s body experience, sex experience, self-esteem and on her relationships. The aim also was to collect insights which would contribute to a more systematic care of the patient with regard to psychological and social problems that arise from a mastectomy.
