Abstract
The prose of the Seljuq period is characterised in some parts by the same directness and simplicity as is that of the foregoing era, but in others it already shows signs of affectation, long sentences, accentuated Arabisms and so on, all of which phenomena gradually become more pronounced. Whereas the belletristic literature proper is more conspicuous for its quality than its quantity, there are several works in existence that, mainly on account of their style, can be placed on the border-line between learned (or at least instructional) and polite literature.
