Abstract

A thrombus resembles a blood clot as formed in vitro in that it consists entirely of blood constituents, but its distinctive anatomy depends on the ordered rather than random arrangement of these constituents and on their relative proportions. In particular, the blood platelets, which tend to be inconspicuous in the clot, make up a major proportion of at least some parts of the thrombus.
