Abstract
The Max-Planck-Institute for Aeronomy at Lindau/Harz, West-Germany operates since autumn 1967 a network of VHF beacon transmitters and receiving stations in Scandinavia and Northern Germany to study VHF continuous wave bistatic auroral backscatter communications in cooperation with the Royal Swedish Telecommunication Board, the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and the German Federal Post. The network is shown in Figure 1.
