Abstract
The medical care of the elderly is called geriatric medicine. There is no difference in the approach to, and application of medical principles in the elderly — cause, symptoms and signs, diagnosis and management must be carried out in just the same way as in the young. Geriatrics should not therefore be considered apart from medicine as a whole, but the concept of geriatric care has produced an improvement of standards towards those who were so often neglected in the past.
