Abstract

Isolated chloroplasts Irradiated without an added oxidant show a complex oxygen exchange: FORK (1963), KOUCHKOVSKY (1963), BRIANTAIS (1963), EGNEUS. An oxygen burst appears directly on irradiation. This oxygen evolution reflects the reduction of a component, probably plastoquinone, in the electron transport chain near PS II.
