Abstract
In his prospective paper on the basic qualitative nature of the European future,1 Michael Young has suggested the main dilemma as being the perennial problem of the relationship between the individual and his society, and the need to balance collective and individual interests. There is an inherent struggle between the hierarchical tendencies of organized society, and the egalitarian aspect of individual personal freedom.
