Antennae filiform, with more than 20 segments. Fastigium mostly somewhat impressed, roundly merging with the frontal ridge. Foveolae absent. Pronotum often without side-keels. Prosternum with strong projection. Dorsal basal lobe of the postfemur longer than the ventral one, medial area with fishbone-pattern on the outside. Posttibia without apical spine on the outside, only in Pezotettix sometimes with apical spine there. In spite of similar movements there is no stridulatory mechanism known on tegmina and femora, though some species stridulate with the mandibles.
