Abstract
The common use of benzene as solvent in homogeneous hydrogenation with complexes such as RhCl(PPh3)3, or RuHCl(PPh3)3 indicates the general resistance of the aromatic ring to hydrogen under these conditions. Also the survey in Chapter III of alkenes which have been hydrogenated by homogeneous catalysis included a number of examples of molecules containing a benzenoid or thiophene ring.
