Spectroscopy of Jupiter and Saturn

There is considerable cosmological interest in determining the composition of the atmospheres of Jupiter and Saturn. These huge planets are low density, rapidly rotating bodies whose atmospheres are apparently banded, with rapidly changing colors caused by complicated chemical reactions.
