Abstract

The so-called bull’s eye of the macular region can only be diagnosed using an ophthalmoscope. The diagnosis does not imply a definite aetiology; it merely refers to an annular depigmentation around the central foveal area, due to local atrophy of the pigment epithelium. Fluorescein angiography accentuates the loss of pigment epithelium cells.
